How to block Web Messengers

TerminatorX v2 can easily block MSN Web Messenger, block Yahoo Web Messenger, block AIM Express and block eMessenger without blocking access to other websites. You can't block ports to block MSN Web Messenger etc. (see below).

Running TerminatorX on a user's workstation forces MSN Web Messenger and other web messengers to close. Employees or students can't see TerminatorX running. The blocked web messengers, programs and web sites just vanish from the screen.

You can find out who is trying to use programs or web sites that you have banned. TerminatorX Monitor shows 'Terminated' programs on a computer located anywhere on your network - for example a Technician's workstation. The details are shown in 'real time' as the attempts are made. Clicking a list entry provides additional details. TerminatorX Monitor can be set to save the details in a .CSV (comma separated values) file which can be opened and viewed in Excel.

Why can't I use port blocking to block Web Messengers?

MSN Web Messenger, eMessenger, Yahoo Web Messenger and AIM Express are all just web pages viewed in a browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. They communicate through the normal web port - port 80. If you block access to port 80 then your browser can not view any web sites.
